I've never exercised before. Where do I start with Pilates?

In your lessons, you will learn basic exercises first to give you a strong foundation from which to grow and gain strength. After you've mastered beginner exercises and pilates fundamentals, your trainer will begin adding in more intermediate exercises and, eventually, advanced. This takes a different amount of time for each person.
What do I wear to my workouts?

You can wear any exercise clothing that you feel comfortable in. Socks are not required but if you choose to wear them, we recommend socks with sticky bottoms.

Do I have to be flexible to do Pilates?

Absolutely not. One of the goals of Pilates is to increase flexibility, as well as build strength and control in the body.

I have a an injury. Can I do Pilates?
​​
Most likely, yes. Pilates exercises can be modified in many ways to accommodate injuries and limitations. You should speak with your trainer prior to your first lesson so they can make necessary modifications.

I've had bad experiences in large group classes. How is Pilates Back Bay different?

We hear you. Group classes at PBB have only 3 or 4 participants. The small class size allows your trainer to be constantly attentive and available to assist you. Clients should have Pilates experience prior to joining a group class.

I have never done Pilates before. Can I join a group class?
​
You should have Pilates experience before joining a group class. No experience? Don't worry! We offer a Group Class Prep Package (3 private lessons for $250) that teach you necessary exercises, equipment set up, safety and spring settings. To book, email us at info@pilatesbb.com

I'm pregnant. Can I do Pilates?
​
Yes. We love to rave about the benefits of Pilates for pregnant women. Our teachers are trained to give modifications and exercises that are appropriate for all three trimesters, as well as understanding the contraindications. With an uncomplicated pregnancy, you can practice until you deliver. **Nothing is more important than the safety of you and your baby, for that reason, it is not recommend to start Pilates after becoming pregnant. If you have a regular Pilates practice prior to becoming pregnant you can continue throughout your pregnancy with doctor permission**
Do you clean the equipment between clients?

Yes. We disinfect all equipment between clients. The studio also has a HEPA air filter running at all times.
